Abstract -The provision of Quality of Service (QoS) in terms of delay guarantee to real-time applications is a challenging issue in differentiated services (DiffServ) networks. There is a great demand to maintain individual flow’s traffic pattern when scheduling aggregated traffic. In this paper, we propose an integrated traffic scheduling and shaping scheme for DiffServ networks. The proposed scheme is called TDFQ (Token-driven Delay-sensitive Dynamic Fair Queueing). There are two highlights in TDFQ: a new scheduling mechanism ― Delaysensitive Dynamic Fair Queueing, and a new colored token approach. Besides the provision of guaranteed delay bound, TDFQ can handle the aggregated traffic shaping and maintain the inter-flow fairness within each traffic class. Theoretical analysis and simulation experiments are also presented in this paper. Comparison results demonstrate the advantage of our approach.

A Novel Fuzzy Logic Base Scheduling Mechanism for Service Differentiation in IP Networks

Quality of Service (QoS) refers to a set of rules or techniques that help the network administrators use the available network resources optimally to manage the effects of congestion and to treat the applications according to their needs. The differentiated services architecture (DiffServ) allows providing quality of service to users. The major DiffServ premise is that individual flows with sim...

Scheduling Architectures for DiffServ Networks with Input Queuing Switches

Due to its simplicity and scalability, the differentiated services (DiffServ) model is expected to be widely deployed across wired and wireless networks. Though DiffServ supporting scheduling algorithms for output-queuing (OQ) switches have been widely studied, there are few DiffServ scheduling algorithms for input-queuing (IQ) switches in the literature. In this paper, we propose two DiffServ ...

A Fuzzy Based Three Color Meter/Marker for Diffserv Networks (RESEARCH NOTE)

Differentiated Services (Diffserv) which was proposed by Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF), is a scalable and robust model for providing the end-to-end QoS. In the Diffserv networks, metering mechanisms are used to measure traffic stream. The single rate Three Color Meter (srTCM) [1],which was proposed by IETF,‏ meters an IP packet stream and marks its packets either green, yellow, or red....

∗ This paper is partly funded by the European research project ELISA, ACTS AC310 Abstract : The Differentiated services (DiffServ) architecture promises the provision of QoS enabled networks by following a simple approach, that eliminates scalability concerns and which can be implemented and managed in large networks. However, for end-to-end QoS an appropriate signaling scheme, like the Resourc...

Bandwidth allocation for DiffServ based quality of service over 802.11

We propose to provide QoS differentiation at the IP level based on the DiffServ model over the standard Distributed Coordination Function (DCF) method of 802.11. By constraining the output rate of each host in a cell via DiffServ scheduling and traffic shaping mechanisms, we can keep the 802.11 network in the state of non-saturation so that the time-sensitive Expedited Forwarding (EF) class ben...
